Happy Thanksgiving!!

Well what can I say .... there are so many things to be thankful for this year:  My family, friends, and my health just to name a few.  What I really want to do is to give a special shout out to all of my students this Thanksgiving ..... you are the ones who put a smile on my face every single day, and I'm so thankful for each and every one of you.  I hope you have a very blessed - and SAFE Thanksgiving!!!  Have a great break!!!

Objective for this week:  To learn the dates and names of important wildlife legislation and to be able to understand how it has affected wildlife resources for the better - as well as how this legislation has helped make a difference in your own personal outdoor experiences.

Monday
Video - mountains.  Study for tomorrow's wildlife legislation quiz.

Tuesday
Wildlife legislation quiz #2. Topics:  Names/dates of Acts #6-10; Act specifics for Acts 1-5.

Wednesday
Wildlife legislation quiz #3; all Act dates/names.  Act specifics for all legislation covered.  Discuss Friday's test.  Edmodo assignment - hunting as a conservation tool.

Thursday
Worksheet packet due by end of class today.  Study for tomorrow's wildlife legislation test.

Friday
Wildlife legislation test today. Fill-in/short answer format

Zoology 11/18-11/22

This week's objective:  To understand how exactly fish can breathe underwater, learn about three different fish classes, and understand how lampreys differ from other common fish types

Monday
Review fish anatomy; discuss countercurrent flow with gills and how the mechanism works.  Introduce three major fish classes and how they are different from one another

Tuesday
In-depth discussion of lampreys from the class Agnatha.  Anatomy, physiology, multimedia.  Quiz over fish anatomy.

Wednesday
Review lamprey information.  Prepare for lamprey dissection by doing pre-lab questions and Q/A session.  External anatomy of lamprey.

Thursday
Continue/finish external anatomy investigation.  Begin studying the internal anatomy of lampreys

Anatomy 11/18-11/22

This week's objective:  To understand what muscles do for you, why they are important, and how muscles contract on a cellular/mechanical level.

Monday
Begin discussing muscle contraction mechanisms; introduce actin and myosin fibers.  Hand out coloring sheet over muscle bundles.  Sarcomere anatomy.  Read 261-272 and on page 300 do questions # 1-6,16,17 on their own.  Due tomorrow beginning of class.

Tuesday
Review sarcomere anatomy; discuss the importance of actin and myosin in muscle contraction.  Discuss specifics/view multimedia over muscle physiology

Wednesday
Muscle bioelectricity and how it plays into contraction mechanisms.  Wrap up sliding filament theory of muscle contraction.

Thursday
Review contraction physiology and bioelectricity.  Student study sessions.  Edmodo assignment due Friday beginning of class (muscle contraction).

Kansas clam assignment due; take a clam quiz with a 100/80 performance objective.  Be able to tell me which end is anterior, posterior, the dorsal surface, the ventral surface; be able to identify the umbo, gills, siphons, muscular foot, and mantle.

After this quiz, discuss more in terms of fish anatomy
