Zoology 2/13 - 2/17

Objective this week:  To learn about the history of amphibians and the transition of life from water to land through the completion of an amphibian history project.

Monday
Discuss the history of the amphibians project at the beginning of the period on Monday.  Watch the video over the history of amphibians with Neil Shubin with the remaining time in class.

Tuesday
Finish the Shubin video; Begin working on the amphibian history project.  YOU WILL HAVE TODAY AND TOMORROW AS CLASS TIME TO WORK ON THIS PROJECT.  NO OTHER CLASS TIME WILL BE PROVIDED.  Students will present their projects on Monday (and possibly Tuesday) of next week.

Project work - amphibian history.

Thursday
Modern amphibians - facts, body plan, and classification of them.

Friday

Biology 2/13 - 2/17

Objective this week:  To learn about geologic time and use trends from life forms in the past to demonstrate how organisms have changed throughout earth's history.  Students will also complete a differentiated mutation project.

Monday
Geologic time - explain what it is, and misconceptions about it.  This will set the stage for our discussion of natural selection over the next couple of weeks.

Tuesday
Mutation differentiation project.  Explain today.

Finish differentiated mutation project.

Thursday
Begin discussing natural selection; what it is, and what it isn't.  Explain misconceptions about natural selection.  Class discussion.

Friday
Review geologic time and continue discussing natural selection.  Explain how mutations fit in to natural selection.

Field Biology 2/5 - 2/9

Objective this week:  To continue applying knowledge of farm pond construction to real-world situations in our county, and take a test over farm pond management on Wednesday to show mastery of the content gained from this unit.

7th Grade Life Science 2/5 - 2/9

Objective this week:  To learn ecosystem mechanics and to discuss where ecosystems fit in with other living systems  of the world. Discuss natural systems with students.

Discuss natural systems and how they work; approach ecosystems through a systems-based approach.

Tuesday
Ecosystem mechanics from a systems perspective; explain how all parts work together.  Watch a lecture video & answer the questions that follow.  The lecture video is included below:
